BCCI media rights: Sony, Star, Reliance eligible to bid for all 3 packages

Three media and communications giants – Sony Pictures Networks India, Star India and Reliance – are in contention for Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) media rights for international and domestic matches. The three have been named eligible parties for bidding for all the 3 packages as per a tweet by the BCCI. The e-auction will start in less than an hour from now at 2.00 pm today, April 3, 2018. 

As is known, in February this year, BCCI had invited bids for the media rights to the BCCI international and domestic matches during the period commencing from April 1, 2018 till March 31, 2023, through online auction process. The media rights are for three packages: 

  1. Global Television Rights plus ROW Digital Rights Package.
  2. Indian Subcontinent Digital Rights Package.
  3. Global Consolidated Rights Package.

Bids may be submitted for one or more of the media rights packages specified in the Invitation to Tender (ITT). 

Meanwhile, as per a report on News18 CricketNext website, the per-match value for the global TV and ROW Digital Rights has been kept at Rs 35 crore for the 2018-19 season. For the Indian sub-continent, the bid value has been kept at Rs 8 crore. The starting bid for the Global Consolidated Rights has been kept at Rs 43 crore for the 2018-19 season. 

From the period between 2019 and 2023, the per match value package is Rs 33 crore; for the Indian sub-continent the value is Rs 7 crore; while for the Global Consolidated Rights the value is Rs 40 crore.
