BCCI's proposed IPL dates disappoints STAR as they look to leverage Diwali

According to media reports, the BCCI is looking to hold the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 tournament between September 26 and November 8. It is said that this tentative schedule was arrived at during a meeting held on Friday.

However, official broadcaster for IPL, Star India, has reportedly expressed its disappointment with the dates and wants the tournament to concude on November 14 to coincide with Diwali in a bid to leverage the festive season advertising in these challenging times.

However, BCCI wants to wrap up the T20 tournament before Diwali due to the commitment to Cricket Australia (CA), where India will travel to Australia for a four-Test series beginning from December 3. The Indian team will need to arrive for this series well ahead in time to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols as well as prepare for the series.
