BEING WOMEN | Challenge is, balancing home and work: Vivaki's Sujata Dwibedy

"It's shameful to see that even at this day and age the count of female feticides and abuse are on the rise," is how Sujata Dwibedy, Associate Vice-President Vivaki Exchange, responded when we tossed the question about International Women's Day.

It's a fact that is alarming as well because while all the talk of women liberation, struggles take rounds, it's indeed sad to see that there have been enough cases that would suggest otherwise.

"For me Women's Day is like any other day. For every human each day should be a celebration of life," Sujata explains.

"It's fun to see a lot of hype and hoopla around this day in the media. It feels good to get special attention on this day. Although I still fail to see the merit in assigning just one day for womanhood," she says.

"It would be commendable if we can generate more awareness among men on the way the women should be treated. An initiative to promote this cause effectively should be something we all should aim for in future," she adds.

But despite that women have climbed up the ladder on their own merit and have made the world a better place to live in.

Challenges though still remain. The biggest being managing home and work.

"The biggest challenge that we face is balancing home and work. Our industry has tight deadlines, commitments and limited resources so it is not easy for women to manage everything," she says.

"But having said that most of the women I know are handling it superbly. And well, I'm yet to come across a man who can multi task as efficiently as us," she adds.

No wonder Sujata feels that women have a slight advantage over their counterparts. "Women are honest, sincere and hardworking that makes us a deadly combination. I feel that we are also good relationship builders and that definitely gives us an edge over our counterparts. Although work deadlines and the fast pace is equal for both the genders, it gets a bit easier for women simply through better people management," she explains.

But having said that Sujata feels that is there lack of enough representation in the industry and it needs to increase.

"I feel more women must get into our industry, we need more dedicated strong force.

In spite of strict deadlines and hectic pace in the advertising industry, there are organizations like ours who have understood the strength of women force and hence are extremely supportive in all ways," she adds.
