Big FM appoints Sunil Kumaran as Country Head of Thwink Big

Big FM has brought on board Sunil Kumaran as Country Head, Thwink Big, which caters to the growing consumer and advertiser needs and changing media trends. With this appointment, Kumaran returns to the Big family to lead the network’s marquee content studio and talent incubator Thwink. His responsibility will involve scaling the Group’s ambitious Content Studio business through development and creation of Original content, talent incubation and strategic alliances. 

Commenting on the new appointment, Tarun Katial, CEO, Big FM, said, “In his past association with us, which was close to 8 years, Sunil’s exceptional domain expertise and passion for content played a key in the networks growth. It gives me immense pleasure to welcome him back to the organisation where he will effectively be taking charge and fuel the growth of our Content Studio – Thwink Big.” 

On his new role, Sunil Kumaran said, “It is an extremely exciting space and I look forward to taking the Group’s vision on content forward with Thwink Big.  We already have a highly driven and experienced team in place and they have been producing some fantastic work for brand. The effort now will be to scale this manifold through innovations, fresh ideas, talent and publishing partnerships.” 

Kumaran comes with an experience of over two decades in Revenue and Content planning & sales, distribution and marketing. Prior to joining Big FM, Kumaran was the Country Head of StoryLab (TSL), the specialist content agency of Dentsu Aegis Network. In his former role with Reliance Broadcast Network Limited, Kumaran was the Chief Strategy Officer for the Group. 

Manish Karnatak, Head, Thwink BIG, and Soela Joshi, Associate Vice President – IP along with their teams will work closely with Kumaran to chart the progress of Thwink Big. 

Launched earlier this year, Thwink focuses on talent incubation, development and creating original content. It adheres to the three core aspects of the network’s strategy comprising excellent music, outstanding storytelling and captivating social experiments. The studio has already delivered high-decibel campaigns like: #NoKhaaliPet, #LoveIsntBlind, #BeatTheBudget – a short format video series for AirAsia, Benadryl Big Golden Voice and many more.
