Big Tech platforms, Google, Facebook, WhatsApp comply with IT Rules

According to media reports, big tech companies Google, Facebook and WhatsApp have complied with IT Minitry’s new digital rules. The social platforms have shared details of a chief compliance officer, nodal contact person, and grievance officer with the ministry as laid down by the new rules.

Social media intermediaries LinkedIn, ShareChat, Telegram and Koo have also shared details with the IT Ministry as per the IT norms that came into effect earlier this week. However, micro blogging platform Twitter has yet to comply with the rules, according to reports.

Twitter has clashed with the ruling party BJP when it flagged the tweets made by several of its leaders as ‘manipulated media’. Twitter has also said that while it is committed to India as a vital market, the new IT rules and regulations inhibit free, open, public conversation.

The Government has said that the new IT rules are designed to prevent abuse and misuse of social media platforms, and offers a robust forum for grievance redressal. The rules came to effect on May 26.
