Bollywood hits back at news channels for spate of allegations, files lawsuit

Sushant Singh Rajput’s unfortunate death has brought into sharp focus the underbelly of the glamorous world of Bollywood. From nepotism, stonewalling industry outsiders to drug abuse and drug deals – a lot of allegations have been levelled against several well-known names associated with Bollywood by the news channels. News channels also came in for sharp criticism for hounding the tinsel town names.

Now, four Bollywood associations and as many as 34 producers have come together in a show of strength to take on the relentless hounding by news channels. These include names like Karan Johar, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Farhan Akhtar and many more.

As per media reports, in their target are particularly two news channels – Republic TV and Times Now. A lawsuit filed by the Bollywood producers seeks the court to restrain these two news channels from making derogatory and defamatory remarks and want the news channels to stick to the Programme Code under the Cable Television Networks Rules.
