Broadcasters amp up the Diwali joie de vivre with a slew of fresh content

With Diwali fervour hitting a crescendo, TV channels across genres have come up with a slew of shows and movie premieres to add to the festivities. Sony PIX 

With the best movie combinations specially designed to keep the audience entertained, stakes are high with hits such as ‘The Mummy’ series, ‘Fast and Furious’ series, ‘Jurassic Park’ series. To add to it, Sony PIX is bidding its biggest aces, blockbuster actors such as Johnny Depp, Vin Diesel and the Rock will take over TV screens to give viewers the PIX Amazing Aces experience. 


AXN 

This Diwali, AXN is encourage binge-watching, with back-to-back episodes of the latest seasons of hit shows like ‘America’s Next Top Model S22’, the ‘Amazing Race S26’, ‘American Ninja Warrior S6’, ‘Survivor S32’ and ‘Fear Factor S5’. 

 

Vh1 

This Diwali, Vh1 ensures wholesome entertainment each day of this festival. The channel will air a special segment – ‘Vh1 Fireworks’ – from October 19 to 21. The Diwali day will be lightened up with ‘Vh1 Fireworks: Light it up!’, a playlist that celebrates this festival of lights. This will be followed by ‘Vh1 Fireworks: Top 20 Highest Paid Entertainers’ on October 20, playing groovy tunes of musicians who have made it to the list of highest paid entertainers this year. The final day will feature ‘Vh1 Fireworks: Gold Class’, a curated playlist featuring artists whose albums have made the cut and achieved gold, platinum and multi-platinum status. 

Zee Tamizh 

Fans of Aamir Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, and R Madhavan can get their popcorn bowls ready for back-to-back airing of their movies – Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ (11:00 AM), ‘Kavanat’ starring Vijay Sethupati (2:30 PM), and ‘Vikram Vedha’ (6:00 PM), which is based on the Indian meta-folktale Vikram-Vedalam Kadhai. The film narrates a story of a tough police officer who goes on a mission to track down and kill an equally tough gangster in the most entertaining fashion. 

Discovery Kids 

Discovery Kids is celebrating Diwali with a line-up of animated classics – ‘Ramayan’ (11:00 am on October 19), ‘Hanuman Immortal 2’ (1.30 pm on October 19), and ‘Pandavas’ (1:30 pm on October 20). ‘Mahabharata’, India’s biggest multi starrer animation film, will air on Friday, October 20 at 11 am. ‘Krishna aur Kans’, India’s first stereoscopic animated feature film, will air on Saturday, October 21 at 11 am. 

Sony YAY! 

Newest kids’ channel on the block, Sony YAY! from Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) is all geared up for its first and massive Diwali celebration with its little fans. The channel is bringing a bag full of YAY! this Diwali, with its campaign ‘Jholmaal Bhari Diwali’. This campaign includes various fun-filled offerings from new episodes to on-ground activations, reinforcing its promise of providing unlimited entertainment to its viewers. 

 

Nickelodeon 

This Diwali, Motu Patlu are all set to double the celebrations for kids with their 13th made for TV movie – ‘Motu Patlu in Hong Kong’ (Kungfu Kings 3). After entertaining kids with their Kung Fu mania in the first two movies of the series, the masters are back and this time, the journey is tougher with bigger and bolder Kung Fu villains. Join Motu and friends as Motu trains with the Boneless Master himself in Hong Kong to defeat the most menacing villain of all; Devil Don. The animated movie premieres on October 19 at 2.30 pm. 

News18 India 

News18 India has travelled to the country’s borders to celebrate Diwali with our soldiers. ‘Diwali Sarhard Wali’ will see the channel’s teams travel from Indo-China border in Tawang in the East to the Indo-Pak border in Jaisalmer in the West to Poonch in the North, lighting up the festive time for our army men. 

The channel will also telecast two special shows: ‘Dhan Jyoti Parv’ - On the importance of the five-day long festival, including Diwali and Dhanteras; and ‘Ghar Aayegi Laxmi’ - A special that will give tips on vastu, home decoration and rangoli-making by experts.
