ByteDance India lays off employees amidst uncertainty around TikTok ban

ByteDance India has begun terminating the employees from their 2000+ strong India workforce and has decided to scale back amidst uncertainty regarding the ongoing TikTok ban. The company has been supporting staffers for over half a year since the ban came into effect.

Only employees involved in critical operations have been retained. The company hopes to relaunch in the country if the ban is lifted. A statement by the company said, “it is therefore disappointing that in the ensuing seven months, despite our efforts, we have not been given a clear direction on how and when our apps could be reinstated.”
