Catch Acclaimed Indian Novelist Amitav Ghosh this Week on Off Centre

This week on Off Centre, Anuradha SenGupta talks to talented author Amitav Ghosh, who talks about the urgency with which the world must focus on spotlighting climate change. Amitav Ghosh is the author of novels such as The Hungry Tide, The Great Derangement and the Ibis trilogy. In The Great Derangement, his last published non-fiction, he charged artists and writers with willfully concealing the reality of climate change.

The recent changes in the American presidency is expected to be a big setback for climate change goals and research. On the show, Amitav tries to figure out how big climate change will be on the world’s agenda in 2017.

He says, “The whole American power structure is predicated on the control of oil. The whole deployment of American power around the world is focused on oil production, on the routes of flow of oil. They long ago conceived of this as very crucial to the maintenance of power in the world. Precisely for that reason, there’s a huge incentive for emerging powers to switch to alternative sources of energy.”

Find out why one of India’s most talented writers has taken up climate change as his cause, this week on Off Centre.
