Catch the Most Acclaimed Movie of the year ‘Mulk’ on &pictures on November 25 at 8pm

“Ek mulk kaagaz pe naksho ki lakeeron se nahin bantaa, mulk bantaa hain rang se, bhasha se, dharam se, zaat se…” There are only handful movies that have an impact on the audience and leave them with an afterthought. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the real-life courtroom drama focuses on the perils of linking terrorism with religion and dismissing communities based on prejudice. Mulk throws light on how people fall prey to political agendas that intend to divide the country based on ‘us’ vs ‘them’. It also digs deeper into how hate propaganda against any religion (in this case Islam) is destructive for a nation and the very fabric of our society. Reckoned as an actress who does meaningful cinema, the film features Taapsee Pannu in the lead with Rishi Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, Manoj Pahwa, Neena Gupta,Rajat Kapoor and Kumud Mishra essaying crucial roles. The critically acclaimed drama will have its World TV Premiere on &pictures, Naye India Ka Blockbuster Movie Channel on Sunday, 25th November at 8pm.

Speaking about the movie, director Anubhav Sinha said, “With the response the movie received during its theatrical release, I am happy to know that the Indian audience is mature and open to movies that are against the tide. Making Mulk was challenging as it not only addresses but also highlights the constant divide between the Hindus and Muslims. The movie is unlike any other Bollywood entertainer and was made with the intention to be heard rather than just talk about an issue on surface level. With the television premiere I now hope that people not only watch the movie but also understand what we have tried to convey.”

Taapsee Pannu added, “I am very happy with the way the audience has received the film but at the same time disturbed with the way some communities are picked out and targeted by the society. One of the main reasons I took up this film was to stand up for them and initiate a change. There were a few apprehensions initially about the character that I play, but I can now say with conviction that they have been put to rest. I hope that with the television premiere the message is conveyed and people realise it, thus taking that step against creating a difference.”

Based on a real-life incident, Mulk narrates the story of Murad Ali Mohammed (Rishi Kapoor), a former-lawyer and a family man from Varanasi. His family comprises of his wife Tabassum (Neena Gupta), his younger brother Bilaal (Manoj Pahwa), his wife Chhoti Tabassum (Prachi Shah), their son Shahid Mohammed (Prateik Babbar) and daughter Aayat. Following a simple lifestyle, Murad’s world turns upside down one day when he finds out that his nephew Shahid (Prateik Babbar) has become the black sheep of the family. He decides to go astray and joins a terrorist organization.

Danish Javed (Rajat Kapur) the investigating cop on the case conducts a raid in the organization’s hide-out and shoots Shahid in the encounter. Murad’s brother Bilaal is taken into police custody and the entire family faces the brutality of the society.

Their daughter-in-law Aarti Mohammed (Taapsee Pannu) takes up the task to clear the family’s name. Will Aarti succeed in her endeavour?
