CNN News18's market share grows to 24% in India R+U in BARC Week 16

CNN News18 (formerly CNN-IBN) has registered strong growth in market share in Week 16 (April 16-22) of 2016 as BARC ratings for both Rural+Urban and Megacities, (BARC, NCCS AB Male 22+, 24 hrs, All Days).

In Week 16, the English news channel garnered a 24 per cent market share, compared to 17 per cent in Week 15 in India R+U markets. Meanwhile in the Megacities, CNN News18 registered a market share of 27 per cent in Week 16 as against 17 per cent market share last week. (It is to be noted here that India Urban is not comparable with previous weeks from Week 41 onwards.)

As is known, Network18 had rebranded its CNN-IBN channel as CNN News18 and the refurbished channel with new name and logo was unveiled on April 18, 2016. 

Meanwhile, Times Now, which has the highest market share, registered a drop in both both Rural+Urban and Megacities markets. The channel garnered market share of 38 per cent in India R+U markets in Week 16, compared to 42 per cent in the previous week. In the Megacities, Times Now’s market share fell from 44 per cent in Week 15 to 35 per cent this week.

Ratings wise, CNN News18 was placed second behind Times Now, with 176 Weekly Impressions (000s) sum.

Times Now recorded 284 Weekly Impressions (000s) sum.

Placed third was India Today Television with 136 Weekly Impressions (000s) sum, followed by NDTV 24x7 with 115 Weekly Impressions (000s) sum, and News 9 with 77 Weekly Impressions (000s) sum.
