Consumers to pay for NDTV India by Sept 15

NDTV has decided to convert its free to air (FTA) channel NDTV India to a pay channel. This change will come to effect on 15 September. Priced at Rs 0.85 for addressable platforms this decision will make all four channels under the NDTV brand, pay channels. NDTV India had gone FTA on 8 April 2016.

When NDTV had made the decision to become an FTA channel it was in line with the trend among news channels.  Zee News and News18 India (earlier IBN7) had also gone FTA in the same year. This trend was sparked because of the BARC report released that year that reported on rural viewership data and the growing reach of Doordarshan's free DTH service, Free Dish.
