Dainik Bhaskar Group concludes its plantation drive 'Ek Ped Ek Zindagi'

Dainik Bhaskar concluded one of its social initiatives ‘Ek Ped Ek Zindagi’. The plantation drive saw a record of 1.5 million saplings planted in a short span of two months across India. The objective of ‘Ek Ped Ek Zindagi’ was to sensitize and educate people on the benefits of planting trees by encouraging them to plant at least one tree in their life time. ‘Ek Ped Ek Zindagi’ initiative was supported and endorsed by over 250 dignitaries from Politics, Bollywood, Padma Shri awardees and Sportsmen encouraging the citizens to plant trees.

Ek Ped Ek Zindagi is one amongst the many social initiatives, which is championed by Dainik Bhaskar Group each year. This year over 1.5 million trees were planted during this holistic initiative, which saw various stakeholders of society enthusiastically participating in it with 3 CMs, 2 Deputy CMs and 3 Governors, 65 Collectors & commissioners,  73 Famous Bollywood & Television celebs,  51 NGOs, 98 Corporates, 114 colleges, 335 Schools and 513 societies & Welfare Associations.

Aamir Khan, who participated in this initiative very enthusiastically, said “Everyone in their own little way should try to save our earth because we live here and it belongs to each one of us. We should plant more and more trees and I personally appeal to everyone that we need to take care of this heritage which will benefit the generations to come.”

The campaign witnessed inspirational Political, Social, Bollywood icons such as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shri. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Smt. Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shri. Hemant Soren, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri. Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Shri. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Hon’ble Governor of Madhya Pradesh Shri. Ram Naresh Yadav, Hon’ble Governor of Haryana Shri. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Union Cabinet Minister Smt. Menaka Gandhi. As per data by the Ministry of Environment & Forests, each day India loses 134 hectares of forest to industrialization, encroachment and mining. This deforestation has detrimental effect on our environment and needs awareness amongst people so that they can contribute towards building a greener and safer environment.

Commenting on the initiative Vinay Maheshwari, Senior Vice President, Sales and Market Development and Brand Marketing, Dainik Bhaskar Group said, “If every individual takes a pledge to plant at least one tree in his/her  lifetime, it will make a huge difference to the society. Today, we are losing our green cover rapidly and next 30 years are crucial for us. Hence it is important for us to understand the significance of planting trees and work towards creating a greener environment.”

Smt. Menaka Gandhi, Indian Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development said “Each person rich or poor, uses 7 trees a year, from the day they are born. If you are 30 years old you have already had 210 trees cut for you. You need to plant all the trees you have used back into the earth.”

Shri. Shivraj Singh Chauhan Hon. Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh said “In all the religious books it is described, that trees are of utmost importance in our lives and are one of the necessary factors for our survival. It is our responsibility to take care of these trees.”
