As they say, behind every successful man there is a woman, I also believe that behind every successful woman there is a very confident and secure man. I thank DainikBhaskar.com and feel honoured to have been given the opportunity to be a part of the jury. It was a difficult task as all the stories were inspiring in their own way”.

The occasion of International Women’s Day embarked the beginning of the Award this year, where we extended the opportunity to nominate the women of extraordinary deeds; who are a true inspiration to many. A massive online campaign was driven through the group sites of dainikbhaskar.com, divyabhaskar.com and dailybhaskar.com, leveraging the other group platforms including print. The selection process involved Dainik Bhaskar Editorial Board, drawing a list of nominees, which is then authorised by a highly distinguished jury comprising of famous Bollywood Personalities, Philanthropists, Entrepreneurs, and Social Activists. This year, we had Shobha De, Activist and Columnist; Laxmi, Acid Attack Activist and prominent Bollywood personality Shilpa Shetty in our panel of jury.

The winners of this year are:
Shani Jaiswal: 53 years old from Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, a victim of domestic violence who in spite of many adversities in life, didn’t lose hope,  made her mark in the field of social service and today stands as an inspiration to many. Shantiji is now the president of ‘Indian council of social wail fare’ of Solan branch and helping thousands of women to become self-sufficient and economically independent through handicrafts.

Smriti Singhal: A post-graduate from University of Delhi running 'The Education Tree'. TET, one of Delhi's fastest growing youth-led organisations that fosters and facilitates all forms of education, with a goal to lay special emphasis on the holistic development of the individual. It imparts sound education irrespective of the socio-economic background and encourages the country’s youth to shoulder social and environmental responsibilities and bring together those who want to teach and those who want to be taught.

Jyoti Dharod: 54 years old, born into a Jain Kutchi family living in a chawl in Mumbai, her story is a true testimony to the undeterred human spirit. Soon after her marriage she was diagnosed with a critical heart disease; that soon followed by a divorce. While battling against the disease she got exposed to the misery of other patients in more dire condition which helped her come out of the gloom and regain her self-confidence. She double graduated in BCom and LLB. Since then, there was no looking back; she devoted herself in voluntary service to the society and the upliftment of her community. She has been working towards the child education; enabling computer and English lessons for the underprivileged kids; she changed the livelihood of the village farmers by implementing innovative farming techniques like solar energy plant, Drip irrigation technique and Tractor Rottweiler in the region, which also got her many accolades.

Talking about this annual flagship initiative, Gyan Gupta, CEO, DB Digital, said, “This unique endeavour by DB Digital is like a token of appreciation for these women, for their undying spirit against all odds and sacrifices that often goes unacknowledged. We are privileged to bring them to the fore as an inspiration to others and honour them with these awards. We saw overwhelming responses as entries poured in from all across the country; leading to an increased traffic and stickiness to our group sites.”
