Deccan Chronicle shuts Bengaluru and Kerala editions

Amid bank fraud charges, Deccan Chronicle has shut its Bengaluru and Kerala editions. Cochin,Calicut and Trivandrum were the three editions it was operating in Kerala. The company now runs 11 editions across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. It also runs The Asian Age across Mumbai, Kolkata and New Delhi.

In February 2019, the Deccan Chronicle Holdings decided to shut their financial newspaper across Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

This year has been a rough one for the print industry with advertising revenues declining for many English newspapers which eventually lead to them shutting editions. However print is said to be growing at 3% and is expected to grow at the same rate for a few more years.

Deccan Chronicle Holdings has been under the scanner of Enforcement Directorate’s scanner for a couple of years now. In August, they had raided the premises of Deccan Chronicle Holdings in connection with a bank fraud of Rs 1,000 crore. The company’s outstanding due at all banks amounts to about Rs 8,000 crore.
