Dirk Van den Berghe steps down as Walmart’s CEO for the Asia region

According to media reports, Walmart’s CEO for the Asia region, Dirk Van den Berghe has quit, Berghe is also likely to step down from the board of Walmart-owned ecommerce marketplace Flipkart.
This comes at a time when the Indian e-commerce giant is firming up plans to go public as early as next year, at a valuation of $45-$50 billion.

Berghe joined Walmart in 2014 as CEO of the Canada region, and also served as the chief executive of Walmart China.

He was also part of Walmart’s leadership team that led the US firm’s $16 billion investment in Flipkart in 2018, which gave it a 77% stake in the homegrown etailer.

Berghe was given a seat on Flipkart’s board alongside Steuart Walton, the grandson of Walmart founder Sam Walton, among others.
