Doordarshan expands programme horizon by increasing collaboration with DW

Prasar Bharati signed three Joint Understandings with Deutsche Welle (DW) for broadcasting and co-production for providing interesting and fresh content to Indian audiences on Doordashan network, today.

DW’s Director General Peter Limbourg and Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar signed three joint understandings for future programming under the existing MOU of 2011 with DW in an event held today in Prasar Bharati. The first represents a major step towards creating new programming, with a coproduction of DW’s award-winning show Euromaxx in Hindi. The second extends the rights to dub DW’s Hindi science program Manthan into other Indian languages. The third understanding is for telecast of Sports Programmes from Transtel.

“We believe that co-productions offer a fantastic opportunity to not only reach out to larger audiences, but to create a better bond with our premium partners,” says Mr Limbourg, DG DW. “Our work with Prasar Bharati and Doordarshan has been successful for both parties and we hope to continue that in the future.”

Mr. Jawhar Sircar, CEO Prasar Bharati said that this opens a new chapter in Indo-German relationship where public broadcasting is concerned and Indians would love to see programmes like Soccer, 50years of Bundesliga, The Olympic Sports, etc. as also, get to watch quality content on European Lifestyle. We have a special relationship with Deutche Welle and we hope it will lead to more mutually beneficial broadcasting collaborations.

Prasar Bharati is India’s Public Service Broadcaster that oversees the two major wings of Radio and Television broadcasting, i.e; All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD). Prasar Bharati has partnered with DW in the past, most notably on the creation of Manthan – a science program produced in Hindi for Doordarshan. Manthan has been broadcast since 2012 on DD- National.
