DRACULA SIR - New Film Announcement by SVF

SVF and nationally acclaimed actor turned Member of Parliament Mimi Chakraborty recommenced their long association with their upcoming film Dracula Sir. Mimi Chakraborty who was last seen in SVF’s venture Mon Jaane Na, had taken a hiatus to concentrate towards the welfare of the people of her constituency. When she was approached by the makers and director of the film Debaloy Bhattacharya, she was more than happy to step into the shoes of the character Manjari.

Dracula Sir also stars popular Bengali actor Anirban Bhattacharya who will be essaying the namesake character. The film is about a primary school teacher (essayed by Anirban) who has a protruding pair of canine teeth that earns him a nickname Dracula Sir. As destiny pushes him towards becoming the vampire, he has always been referred to... he has a story to tell from 1971 that makes his journey a tale of finding love and revenge...

Excited about his latest venture, director Debaloy Bhattacharya (whose last film Bidaay Byomkesh had made a great mark at the box office), goes on to say: “This film is my search for the Bengali Dracula without the castle, who is out to create his own myth. Mimi has a melancholia and a sadness that has never been explored. The character of Manjari from 1971 who drives the narrative silently needs the same. I was a fan of Pupe (a role essayed previously by Mimi) from Gaaner Opare days, and this character of Manjari has a shed of Pupe's poise. It’s by sheer luck that Mimi decided a comeback and I was casting for Manjari. And she got the character at a blink! Also, this being her comeback after a sabbatical makes it a double bonanza!

Talking about Anirban Bhattacharya, his lead actor, the director further added “He was the first and last choice for this character. He has the range where from an underdog he can become a larger than life character. He is undoubtably the most promising young face on screen today. Excited and waiting to go to floor!

Elated about the new project, Mahendra Soni, Co-founder & Director, SVF said, “Dracula Sir is our latest offering to the Bengali audience. I have immense faith in the filmmaking of Debaloy and believe he can create wonders with his work. It’s always great to work with Mimi and our association goes back to many years. Watch out for 2020: Mimi & Anirban’s chemistry will add a new flavour to Bengali cinema! "

Dracula Sir produced by SVF anddirected by Debaloy Bhattacharya is scheduled to go on floors from January 2020. The film is part of SVF’s 2020 slate.
