eBay India reveals trends on gadget shopping in India

eBay India (www.eBay.in), India’s leading eCommerce marketplace, released the Battle of the Gadgets report based on an analysis of all gadget transactions on eBay India from January 1, 2013 to March 31, 2013 (Q1). The report reveals interesting insights on gadget consumption patterns of online shoppers across the country. Battle of the Gadgets dives deep into the fastest moving gadget categories of Mobile Phones, Laptops, Tablets, Digital Cameras, & Televisions to illustrate consumer behaviour through multiple attributes such as brand adoption, pricing and geographical relevance.

According to Ms. Deepa Thomas, eCommerce Evangelist, eBay India, “Gadgets have always been very popular on eBay India with as much as 48% of the online shopping basket being from the electronics category. A key trend this quarter is a 62% surge in gadget purchases by non-metro cities vis-à-vis the last quarter signaling the massification of eCommerce.”

As per the report, consumers are upgrading to personal and portable devices as smart phone and tablet sales are gaining immense momentum. Smart phone purchases have gone up by more than 3 times and tablets have more than doubled as compared to purchases in the same quarter last year. Televisions, another popular category on eBay India, have also observed a dynamic change with LCD TVs losing sheen to LED TVs. 3D LED TVs purchases have surpassed LCD TVs in Q1 2013, with an almost 5 times growth as compared to same quarter last year.

On the brands front, Samsung has surfaced as the most popular gadget brand with a 27% market share across the Mobile Phone, Laptop, Tablet, Digital Cameras & Television categories on eBay India. Category-wise, the most purchased brands are Samsung under Mobile Phones, Dell under Laptops, Apple under Tablets, Nikon under Digital Cameras & Samsung under Televisions.
