eBay India reveals trends on gadget shopping in India

eBay India (www.eBay.in), India’s leading eCommerce marketplace, released the Battle of the Gadgets report based on an analysis of all gadget transactions on eBay India from April 01, 2013 to June 30, 2013 (Q2). The report reveals interesting insights on gadget consumption patterns of online shoppers across the country. Battle of the Gadgets dives deep into the popular gadget categories of Mobile Phones, Laptops, Tablets, Digital Cameras, & Televisions to illustrate consumer behaviour through multiple attributes such as brand adoption, pricing and geographical relevance.

According to Ratul Ghosh, Head Strategy, eBay India, “Gadgets have always been very popular on eBay India. With our extensive range of gadgets across brands, models & budgets which enable our consumers to get easy access to the best deals & widest selection online, we see a great demand coming from consumers across metros, tier II and tier III cities. Interestingly, a key trend this quarter is the increase in the purchase of gadgets by consumers living in Non-Metro cities (51%) as against those living in the metros (49%)”.

As per the report, non-metro purchases have gone up by 35% as compared to Q2 2012. LCD TVs are also losing sheen to LED TV and the purchase of 3D LED TVs has doubled when compared with LED TVs. Smart phone purchases have also increased as compared to Q2 2012 and the purchase of tablets have doubled in comparison to last year.

On the brands front, Samsung has once again surfaced as the most popular gadget brand with a 35% market share as compared to a 27% market share the previous quarter across the various categories. Category-wise, the most purchased brands are Samsung under Mobile Phones, Dell under Laptops, Samsung under Tablets, Nikon under Digital Cameras & Samsung under Televisions.
