Engaging the new independent journalist in the changing scenario

PRPOI (Public Relations Professionals of India), a close-knit group of PR professionals across India, has been conducting workshops, seminars, discussing national and international case studies and imparting training on an ongoing basis. The primary purpose of this group is to refresh the basics, polish the skills and to learn and grow together to become seasoned professionals.

As part of its webinar series, PRPOI is planning a series of talks and panel discussions through Facebook on a regular basis. Some of the best thinkers and professional experts will be brought on stage to discuss various topics in the world of PR and Communication. All sessions are focused on PR helping the PR community understand how to deal and manage the sector.

The webinar session today, July 25, 2020 at 12 noon will introduce the PR community to the new independent journalist. Media has been in a state of flux for the last couple of months now. However, when chaos reigns, it gives birth to innovation. And there is a lot of innovation happening in the media industry right now.

Hosted by Tarunjeet Rattan, the experts on the panel will share their individual innovations and discuss with us best practices along with insights on how PR professionals and journalists can work more cohesively in the current changing scenario.

Meet our panelists:

Ruth Esther Dsouza

Ruth is a media professional with 19 years of experience. She began her career with TV as an executive producer and moved to journalism as a feature writer. She went independent 13 years ago. Her work has been published in Nat Geo Traveller, Travel and Leisure, The Hindu, Firstpost, Al Jazeera, The Quint, Huffington Post, Architectural Digest, Reader’s Digest, Lifestyle Asia and Smartlife, among others. Her niches are food and beverage, architecture and interiors, culture and lifestyle. She is on the jury panels for prestigious F&B Awards such as the Epicurean Guild Awards by Living Foodz Channel, Condenast Restaurant Awards, BW Hotelier Awards and The Week Restaurant Awards. Ruth is also a Google certified fake news detection trainer and conducts workshops on food writing and feature writing.

Deepali Singh

Deepali Singh has 17 years of experience as a media professional. Her first job was with The Afternoon Despatch & Courier, where she covered city news ranging from health, campus and local events. She moved on to Bombay Times and discovered feature writing, covering beats such as art and culture, music and films. She followed it up with work in publications such as Sunday Midday and DNA After Hrs. She went independent last year and her words can be found in Mumbai Mirror, The Hindu, Bombay Times, Mint Lounge, DNA, Bollywood Insider, TMM, architecturaldigest.in and vogue.in. Her interests include art and culture, food, music, films, lifestyle and beauty.

Joanna Lobo

An independent journalist from Goa, based in Mumbai, she has worked with Hindustan Times, DNA and Midday before going freelance three years back. Her areas of interest in writing include food, and how it ties in with communities and different regions; travel – sustainable, adventure and cultural; luxury, health and lifestyle. She has written for India and international magazines, digital publications, and newspapers. She is a strong (and honest) advocate of the freelance life, and curates a fortnightly newsletter for writers and freelancers in India, called ‘It’s All Write’. She also co-founded a food publication called ‘But First, Food on Medium’ to tell original and unusual food stories.
