Exclusive | New horizons in home entertainment: STMicroelectronics' Yannick Paillard

The DDB Foundation; which is a union of seven technology titans recently launched their most prestigious innovation- the Digital Direct Broadcast (DDB) Technology platform. The DDB technology platform is an advanced TV operating system that brings together a hoard of functions on a single platform .i.e. your television.

STMicro Electronics is one of the pioneers of this revolutionary technology. ST is a global leader in semiconductor market servicing customers across the spectrum of sense and power technologies and multimedia convergence applications. From energy management and savings to trust and data security, from health care and wellness to smart consumer devices, in the home, car and office, at work and at play, ST is found where microelectronics make a positive and innovative contribution to people’s lives.

Adgully caught up with Yannick Paillard- Senior Director at STMicroelectronics, to know more about this revolutionary technology that seeks to enrich the TV viewing experience with the convergence of various features.

Sharing insight into the technology Yannick said, “We wanted to bring the entire experience for the audience under one umbrella. DDB platform will make television interactive. It will enhance audio and video quality. It will change the digital landscape.”

Commenting on how DDB is a revolutionary technology Yannick Paillard said, “The whole idea in terms of user experience is to be able to switch from broadcast content to online content without switching from one set top box to another. This will come from the technology that we have created which has the horsepower to bring all of it under one entity.”

The DDB platform comes with computing abilities enabling users to save files, also providing them with superior browsing experiences and 3D viewing and much more integrated under one platform.

“DDB platform has been mainly launched for the Indian market and the technology will be deployed to manufacturers. The idea is to make the service available to any TV buyer,” added Yannick.

Yannick Paillard believes that the USP of the product is that it can deliver both broadcast and broadband on one platform.

Sharing his views on how DDB would impact digitization he said, “The technology will re-inforce digitization. It is about bringing digital under a single platform. It will support digitization.”

The DDB technology platform thus vouches to set newer global standards in the home entertainment experience.
