Exclusive | TV gives me substance and satisfaction: Apurva Agnihotri

Apurva Agnihotri is a known face in the Hindi television and film space. He shot to fame with his debut in Subhash Ghai’s Pardes alongside Shah Rukh Khan and then newbie Mahima Chowdhary.

Currently seen in Star Plus’ Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara as Vikram Dhanrajgir, the actor will now be seen in Life OK’s new offering Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh.

Adgully caught up with actor Apurva Agnihotri where he spoke about his latest show, his love for television and more...

Though he had a grand launch with Pardes, Apurva’s role in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin made him more famous.

Speaking about his new role he said, “The character of Vikram which I am playing is very different as he is someone who is bit psychic, hate women but loves coffee! The character has got OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), he very mean towards people. Previously, the characters which I’ve played were bit easy to play but this one is toughest to play so far. I am still trying to get hand of it”.

While his actor wife Shilpa has been associated with Balaji Telefilms, the producer of the show, this is the first time for Apurva. Sharing his thoughts on the same, he said, “I’ve never worked with Balaji and yes this is my first show with Balaji, but having said that, I am looking forward to this show and want to give my best”.

Sources inform Adgully that before Ajeeb Daastan Hai Ye, Apurva was earlier offered lead role in Balaji Telefilms Kya Huaa Tera Vaada opposite Mona Singh; however, he could not do that show then due to prior commitments.

He shared that, “I like to have my own interpretation of the character I am playing, because I feel that if I am following someone else’s expression that will not be real me.”

Apurva has done Bollywood films like Pyaar Koi Khel Nahin, Krodh, Hum Ho Gaye Aapke, Kasoor and others which wasn’t so successful but the shows like Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Nach Baliye, Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi, Pati Patni Aur Who, Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai, Aasman Se Aage, Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai and Bigg Boss 7 worked well for him.

Apurva goes onto say that, “I do not want to do films for heck of doing as I want substance in the story which I am a part of. I feel compared to films, TV gives more substance and satisfaction, but there are loads of actors who think other way round”.

Sharing the trends that TV has witnessed, he explained that, “I think now with television we are following steps of Hollywood, as abroad best celebrities have worked in TV, then done successful films and now doing both - TV shows and films. I never had that mental block of films bigger than TV, I feel today that myth has broken.”

Apurva and his wife Shilpa have been participants in celebrity – based reality shows Nach Baliye and Bigg Boss. “With Bigg Boss I feel, Shilpa and I have made small fortune out of it and luckily we came with a dignity. Nach Baliye has also been a great platform to be part of”, he added.

Accroding to him, Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh will surely set a new trend in the Hindi television space. “TV as a medium and industry has evolved with times; horror and romance are the genre which always worked well as Indian shows but now there are other formats too which are doing well. If I get chance I would love to do a show like Zindagi’s Maat”, he concluded. [ By Ranjana Gupta | Twitter: @RGrightsreserve]
