Exploring the world with my wife and children, is much more fun: Woodland's Harkirat Singh

Harkirat Singh, Managing Director, Woodland, who believes in using real time to engage customers has played a vital role in evolving the brand  since its inception. With over 21 years of working experience with Woodland, he has faced all the odds of the marketing and advertising industry and emerged successful.  Representing a brand which is synonymous with adventure, he himself is an avid traveler and loves to venture out into the unknown and explore new places. According to him travelling is about feeling the richness of the forest, the emptiness of the desert, the might of the rivers and the majesty of the mountains.

Fox Traveller Diaries this week caught up with Harkirat Singh to talk about his love for travel, his experiences and his fascination with the great outdoors: Following are the excerpts of the conversation:

Fox Traveller Diaries (FTD): If there is one place you can keep going back to for a holiday, where would it be?

Harkirat Singh (HS): Italy. I love Italy because of the wide array of cultural and outdoor activities: ski, alpine skiing, snowboarding, trekking and Nordic walking, mountain biking… not to mention excellent structures for ice skating, swimming, tennis, horseback riding and the beautiful and evocative ALPS….the list just goes on!

FTD: Tell us three good things about travelling.

HS: You have to keep an open mind when you travel: the best thing about travelling is that you never stop learning, and this covers all, landscapes, people, experiences, which allows us to get to know the world we live in better.

FTD: When you travel, what is a must carry for you?

HS: My iPhone Tab and most certainly a camera to capture the beautiful moments when travelling.

FTD: When and where did your best holiday happen?

HS: South of Spain

FTD: Being a frequent traveller, what is your travel tip for others?

HS: It's good to read about the background and history of the places you would want to visit. Maps and travel guides are a great aid to avoid missing out on places of interest that you absolutely would have liked to visit. Careful planning also contributes to more relaxed, easier and more fruitful travel.

FTD: A colleague/co-worker from your industry with whom you would like to go on a holiday.

HS: I like to explore the world with my wife and children, it's much more fun.

FTD: Have you ever been surprised by the taste of food, outside India? Where?

HS:  I am very fond of Italian food and I was completely enamored by the quality of food I had during my travel to Italy.

FTD: What and where has been your best bazaar bargain so far?

HS: I am not much of a bargainer but I loved shopping in Thailand and Spain.

FTD: Which has been the most unique destination that you ever visited? When and why?

HS:  South of Spain, because it is colorful, vibrant and alive. These are the three words that immediately pop into my head when I am thinking about Southern Spain.

FTD: Tell us how you have managed to make a journey fun.

HS:  It really depends on the company you go with and for me; family and close friends always make it better.

FTD: A gourmet gaffe that you would like to share.

HS: Nothing in particular.

FTD: What has been your worst travel moment? Why?

HS: Getting stuck overnight in China without any rest.

FTD: What is the best souvenir you ever bought for anyone?

HS: A sword from Toledo
