Facebook Adds Video Co-Watching Functionality to Messenger

Back in March instagram launched a co-watching feature, Facebook is now adding similar functionality for Messenger, which will enable users to host video watch parties, via video call or Messenger Rooms, with up to 50 friends in the app. The functionality has been added to help keep people connected at a time when many of us remain distant because of the various COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions.

Along with the Co-watching feature facebook have another Watch Party option, To launch a Watch Together stream, users simply need to start a Messenger video call as normal, or create a Messenger Room, then swipe up to access the menu and select "Watch Together".

As shown in this sequence, users can search for the video they want to watch (with an emphasis on Facebook Watch content), or select from the recommended lists.
