Facebook advocates ad transparency ahead of 2019 General Elections

Social Media Platform, Facebook has announced that they will initiate big changes in the way they manage ads on their platform. In a blog post, they mentioned that they are working hard to prevent abuse of their platform during the upcoming general elections next year.

Facebook will now verify a person’s identity and location who wants to publish an advertisement related to politics. They have requested advertisers to begin the process in advance on their mobile phones via the Facebook app as the verification process may take a few weeks.

In the year ahead, Facebook will include a disclaimer with all the ads on their platform of a political nature providing details such as who is placing the ad through an online searchable ‘Ad Library’ that is available for anyone to access. However, eligible news publishers need not get authorized to place their ads on Facebook and neither will their ads be placed in the ‘Ad Library’.
