Facebook elevates Alex Schultz as the new Global CMO

Following Antonio Lucio’s exit from the company, Facebook has promoted its VP of Product Growth, Analytics & i18n, Alex Schultz, as its Global Chief Marketing Officer. Lucio had resigned from his post last month to dedicate his time to diversity, inclusivity and equity.

Announcing the news in a post on Facebook, Schultz expressed his excitement on taking on the Global CMO role and thanked Lucio for being “a great friend, colleague, creative leader and voice of experience and wisdom for this company”.

Schultz further wrote, “I have grown up in online marketing and believe deeply in the economic empowerment it can bring, its ability to show people more tailored, relevant, less annoying ads, and the fact it allows us to serve everyone by offering our products for free. I believe deeply in the good Facebook’s products do. We have all seen it through this pandemic as billions of people have connected with family and friends socially online while staying physically apart and slowing the spread of the virus.”

“At the same time I think scrutiny of any new technology is appropriate and there are ways we can, and should, improve without losing all the good. I’ve spent most of my energy for the last 4 years on Facebook’s safety work with Naomi, Javi and Guy and am proud of what we’ve built there,” he added.
