Facebook to pay $650 million to settle privacy lawsuit

A federal judge has approved a $ 650 m settlement of a privacy lawsuit against Facebook for allegedly using photo face tagging photo face tagging and other biometric data without permission of the users.

The class action lawsuit was filed against Facebook in Illinois in 2015. Nearly 1.6 million Facebook users who submitted claims in Illinois will be affected. It will put at least $ 345 into the hands of every class member interested in being compensated.

This is one of the largest settlements ever for a privacy violation. Facebook has since changed its photo tagging system.
