FIFA WC 2018 contributes to 66% of total sports viewership in BARC Wk 24

Football is gaining traction in India, and this is proved by the viewership numbers released by BARC India for the ongoing FIFA World Cup Russia 2018. 

In Week 24, football contributed to 66 per cent of total sports viewership in the country. Kerala, Assam/ North-East and West Bengal are the top contributing markets to FIFA WC viewership. 30 per cent viewership came from Kerala, while 28 per cent and 20 per cent came from Assam/ NE and WB, respectively. 

The opening ceremony of FIFA WC 2018 telecast on Sony channels, garnered 2.1 million impressions [BARC TG: All India, 2+; Channels: Sony Ten 2 (SD+HD), Sony Ten 3 (SD+HD), Sony ESPN & DD Sports]. 

Total impressions for the opening match between Russia and Saudi Arabia is 6.5 million impressions, while the total impressions for the first 4 FIFA matches is 16.1 million impressions. In comparison, the viewership for first 4 Euro Cup matches was 1.3 million impressions.
