Flipkart in talks to acquire stake in Hotstar; plans for video content

As per media reports, e-commerce major Flipkart is in talks to acquire a stake in Star India’s OTT platform Hotstar. This is in keeping with Flipkart’s plans to enter the video content space.

In July this year, Flipkart had joined hands with Hotstar to launch a new ads platform. Christened Shopper Audience Network, the platform allows brands to connect with customers through personalised TrueIntent video ads on Hotstar. Along with this, Flipkart has also roped in Hotstar as one of its Internet partners for its customer loyalty programme, Flipkart Plus, which is competitor of Amazon Prime.

The current OTT landscape in India is witnessing accelerated growth with leading players like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, SonyLIV, ZEE5, Voot, etc., strengthening their video content offering, especially launching a slew of Original content.
