Frette presents ‘The Sound of Sleep’ by Frette and Tom Middleton

On the occasion of World Sleep Day 2023 (March 17th), in support of deep relaxation and restorative sleep, the famed Italian bed linen brand Frette partnered with world-renowned wellness music pioneer and sleep science coach Tom Middleton, co-founder of White Mirror, bringing to life ‘The Sound of Sleep’ a world first collaboration that marries the luxurious materiality and tactile experience of Frette linens with sound design techniques ASMR, Spatial Audio, Binaural Audio and White Noise.

The ‘Sound of Sleep’ consists of 13 tracks and will be launched March 17th. Each track draws inspiration from the sounds of the remarkable materials used in Frette's sumptuous bed linen collections, with names such as Linen Lullaby, Woolen Waves, and Cashmere Calm. Using a special binaural microphone, the sound of the fabrics ingeniously replace typical relaxing nature sounds such as wind, rain and waves. The album has been scientifically designed to promote a deep and restorative sleep, ensuring you feel refreshed and energized upon waking.

Tom Middleton comments: “It is my mission to help millions sleep better, and as a sleep coach I always recommend investing in high quality bed linen. In my science based sleep soundscapes I often use the relaxing sounds of natural white noise, like waves, rain or wind. This world first collaboration with Frette spawned an exciting creative opportunity to leverage the power of ASMR and record Frette’s exquisite fabrics in a way that sounds similar to those elemental nature sounds. This suite of tracks is designed to calm the nervous system, slow respiration and heart rate and deeply relax the listener in preparation for a deep and restorative nights sleep.”

Statistics, World Sleep Day

Just like eating well and exercising, sleep is a behavior that is foundational to one’s physical, mental, and social well-being. However, sleep is not yet commonly considered an essential behavior for good health. World Sleep Day is an opportunity to promote sleep health.

Global statistics show around 36% of populations aren’t getting enough quality sleep. CDC recommends between 7 and 9 hours, but we have lost an hour of sleep since 1942. 1 in 5 US adults struggle to sleep every night, 70 million adults in the US suffer from sleep disorders and 80% wish to improve their sleep. We spend a third of our lives sleeping so investing in your sleep environment is crucial to improving sleep quality. https://worldsleepday.org/ Listening to nature based white noise, ASMR sounds and relaxing music can aid relaxation and sleep.
