FX prepares to invade Indian Television with 'Doctor Who'

Get set to embark on a time travel adventure of a lifetime! This May, FX prepares to invade Indian Television with one of the greatest science fiction series ever made- Doctor Who. Starting 15th May, anticipation levels will hit the roof as viewers get the much awaited chance to come face to face with the universe’s real hero- every Monday to Friday, 9pm only on FX.

Doctor Who, produced by the BBC Wales, is the longest running sci-fi TV show in the world. A significant part of British popular culture, the iconic series follows the adventures of the Doctor, a Time Lord—a time-travelling humanoid alien. He explores the universe in his TARDIS, a sentient time-travelling space ship. Along with a succession of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes while working to save civilizations and help people in need. He is over 2000 years old and has the power to regenerate when his body becomes damaged. A rather unusual hero, he doesn’t have a tank or a warship or even an X-wing fighter to move from one era to

another - all he has is TARDIS, in the shape of an old British Police box. Armed with a sonic screwdriver, this time-traveling alien adventurer has vowed to prevent evil forces from harming innocent people or changing history. Instead of mesmerizing superpowers or remarkable physical appearances, he has an extra heart, which is an extraordinary thing in itself. It’s no secret that ‘Doctor Who’ exists to fire our imagination!

Brian Minchin, Executive Producer, Doctor Who says: “We are delighted that Doctor Who is going to hit the screens of FX. We’re hugely proud of the show and the Doctor’s adventures in time and space. Hold on tight - there are thrills and wonders ahead! 51 years ago, the very first episode of Doctor Who was directed by Waris Hussein, born in Lucknow. I like to think we’ve finally come full circle with the new modern series launching in India on FX.”

Doctor Who has a phenomenal following millions fans across the globe winning 98 television awards. Until 2015, the series even holds the Guinness World Record for the largest simulcast of a TV drama - 98 countries across 6 continents! Over the recent years, ‘Doctor Who’ has won over 5 million fans on Facebook, 1.2million followers on Twitter, and in November 2014, the YouTube channel bagged a new subscriber every 41 seconds!

While many Indian viewers will get a chance to be introduced to Doctor Who for the first time, the series launch in India will also extend a chance to all the die-hard Doctor Who fans or Whovians as they are famously known as, to participate in the global Doctor Who phenomenon by catching the series on their television sets. Doctor Who fans in India have many a times asked for the show to be brought to India!

To give the show an apt promotional platform, FX has created a robust integrated marketing campaign reiterating the channel’s tagline- The Edge of Entertainment. Reaching out to all the ‘edge seekers’, FX India has also made a music video complete with original composition, zany graphics and footage that has been specially created to announce the show’s launch and the impending arrival of the Doctor. With the support of these various engagement activities for this flagship property, multi-dimensional efforts have been initiated to ensure that viewers re-live the ‘Doctor Who’ era in the days to come.

Commenting on the cult fan-following and Doctor Who’s travel to India, the official spokesperson from Star said, “We are very excited to be associating with BBC and bringing a cult show such as Doctor Who to Indian audiences.
