Game of Thrones Season 7 Ep 4 leaked online; Star India confirms breach

In a major breach, Episode 4 of popular fantasy drama Game of Thrones Season 7 was leaked online ahead of its date of airing on Sunday, August 6, 2017 on HBO globally, Monday, August 7 on Hotstar and Tuesday, August 8 in India on Star World.

Earlier this week, HBO’s network was hacked following which 1.5 terabytes of data, including the script of the ongoing Season 7 of Game of Thrones, was reportedly stolen.

It is now known that the breach happened at Star India, HBO’s distribution partner in India. Star India’s watermark appears in the multiple screen grabs of the leaked Episode 4. “For internal viewing only” also appears on the top left hand corner of the screen.

Admitting the compromise, a statement issued by Star India said, “This confirms the compromise of episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 7, earlier this afternoon. We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause. This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action.”
