George Varghese to replace Shekhar Gupta at The Indian Express

English daily, The Indian Express has re-appointed George Varghese as CEO of the Group. This will be his second stint at the newspaper. He replaces Shekhar Gupta who has renounced his duties at the daily but will continue to be the Group Editor-in-Chief.

Varghese is expected to take charge effective 28th August 2013, (today) and will report to Viveck Goenka, Chairman & MD , The Indian Express Group.

This is what Shekhar Gupta had to say in an internal mail sent to the Indian Express staff dated 26th August 2013. He stated, “I am pleased to inform you about the return of another Express Group veteran, George Varghese, as the Company’s CEO, to assist Viveck (Goenka, Founder & CMD, The Indian Express Group) who will be fully hands-on.”

Varghese has been associated with the daily earlier when he worked as Chief General Manager for a decade between 1988--1998 and was responsible for space marketing and circulation. His 25 years of experience includes his stint with KEC International as President for its Distribution business , with  Reliance Communications as President and also at Hughes Telecom. Varghese, a science graduate, holds an MBA degree from the Institute of Management Development and Research, Pune.
