Globe Trotting through stories; Mira Nair in Spring Fever 2013

The third day of Spring Fever literature festival aptly titled ‘the global storyteller’, saw Mira Nair lighting up the festival as guests were excited to hear about her journey from Salaam Bombay to The Reluctant Fundamentalist. The session started with the showcasing of the trailer of Mira’s upcoming film, ‘The reluctant fundamentalist’.

Columnist Jai Arjun Singh struck the themes for discussion, by asking about gorilla filmmaking used in Salaam Bombay, her early inspirations, journey in film making and what to expect from her in the future.

Speaking on these themes Mira Nair said, “Truth is so much more powerful than fiction in my work. The spring board for making The reluctant fundamentalist was my first trip to Lahore. It was a familiar and moving experience. I was awed by the largeness of it, the art of it, things that are not always represented in the media. I wanted to portray contemporary Pakistan and also wanted to create a dialogue with America, which is also home for me. I believe that if we don’t tell our own stories, no one else”.
