Google to integrate Chat AI in search: Sundar Pichai

Google will launch conversational Artificial Intelligence features to its flagship search engine, The Wall Street Journal has reported, quoting Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai. This is a significant development amid the growing dominance from the likes of ChatGPT.

In an interview with WSJ, Pichai sought to dispel the widespread notion that chatbots are posing a threat to Google’s search business.
Pichai said that people will be able to ask questions to Google and engage with LLMs in the context of search.
For long Google has remained a leader in coming up with computer programmes called LLMs (large language models), which is capable of processing and responding to natural-language prompts in a human-like manner. But the search giant is yet to use the technology to influence the way people use search.
For a long time, Google has deployed AI to process complex search queries. However, the arrival of ChatGPT in November has triggered a never-seen-before competition to integrate the AI technology into consumer products.
Search rival Microsoft Corp. has already adopted the AI technology in its Bing search engine. And Pichai has to act fast as its search engine business model is facing a threat like never before. Investor pressure is mounting. Alphabet, in Januarys, announced that it would cut about 12,000 jobs.
Recently Google CFO Ruth Porat warned that more spending cuts are in the offing.
