Government asks WhatsApp to rollback privacy policy; gives seven day notice

The government has once again directed WhatsApp to roll back its privacy policy which came into effect on May 15.

A letter sent by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology stated that the changes in the policy and the manner of introducing these changes undermine the values of informational privacy, data security, and choice of Indian and harms the rights of Indian citizens.

The government has given WhatsApp seven days to respond to its notice and if no satisfactory answer is received then necessary steps in consonance with the law will be taken.
