Government sends notice to Twitter; attempts to stop spread of fake news

In an attempt to put a curb on propagation of fake news about Kashmir, the Superintendent of Srinagar Police has sent an official letter to Twitter asking it to share Twitter user 'WSK' (@WajSKhan)'s registered email Id, his mobile number, IP address, and any other details.

He has also highlighted the intensity of the situation by stating that the tweets of the user have the potential to aggravate the situation, endangering the lives of the people in Kashmir.

The CRPF had pointed out the content of the tweet posted by 'WSK' as a baseless rumour regarding the situation of Kashmir post the abolishment of Article 370. The CRPF clarified that security forces are working for peace in the state.

The Home Ministry submitted a report of the celebration of Bakr Eid in the valley on Monday. It said that prayers were offered peacefully in the various districts. It also said that approximately 10,000 people were present to offer prayers at Jamia Masjid in Baramulla.

Meanwhile, as per media reports, the Home Ministry has asked as many as eight Twitter accounts to be suspended for campaigning against India and revoking of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir.
