Govt. of India releases Postage Stamp on Chitralekha and its founder!

The sterling performance of the regional print major Chitralekha over the past six decades got recognized by the Government of India, which released a Commemorative Postage Stamp on Chitralekha and its founder, Late Vaju Kotak. The President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil released the stamp at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on April 20, 2011 at 1130 hours in the presence of Minister of Communications, IT & HRD, Kapil Sibal, Ministers of State for Communications & IT Gurudas Kamat & Sachin Pilot, and many other political bigwigs like L K Advani, Jairam Ramesh & Ahmed Patel.

Alongwith the Postage Stamp, the Department of Posts also released first day covers, presentation kits and deluxe albums on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mitrajit Bhattacharya, President & Publisher, Chitralekha Group comments,"This is a humbling experience for all of us at Chitralekha and this will further encourage us to play the role of a responsible media house for many more years to come. It is not only an honour for our Group but for the entire print industry. This is also the perfect ending to our year long Diamond Jubilee celebrations".

Chitralekha Group had a humble beginning, when its flagship Gujarati magazine, Chitralekha was launched in 1950 by Vaju Kotak, with a print run of 10,101 copies. Today, the much revered news weekly boasts of over 240,000 copies and is almost a fixture in Gujarati households across the globe.
