While the year 2020 was a washout due to the severe disruption brought about by the global pandemic, the year 2021 saw businesses fighting back to brush off the pandemic effects and redraw a new success graph.

Amid challenging, we have seen the industry show remarkable resilience, and though the devastating effects of COVID-19 – the large number of deaths, jobs lost, salaries drastically cut, businesses shutting down, long periods of being confined to homes – stunned all, there have been greenshoots of optimism.

We saw people and businesses transition to digital, almost overnight. People quickly adapting to the restrictions and learning to make do with what they got and leading their lives on digital – be it shopping, networking, content consumption, financial transactions, working, studying.

While the economic effects of the pandemic have been harsh, but they have failed to dampen the spirits of the people and the industry. The bounce-back seen once the heartbreaking impact of the COVID second wave in March-April-May 2021 began to wane, was encouraging. People returned to offline retail in huge numbers during the festive season. Sports had a great time this year – buoyed by the performance of Indian athletes at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, the UEFA Euro and Copa America tournaments, Indian Premier League 2021, ICC T20 World Cup. Indian cricket team’s tour of Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and now South Africa kept advertisers and viewers alike engaged.
