HC refuses Arnab Goswami's petition for interim relief in abetment to suicide case

On Thursday, the Bombay High Court refused interim relief to journalist Arnab Goswami in the 2018 abetment to suicide case stating that it will hear both sides and pass judgement on Friday.

Arnab Goswami approached the High Court to challenge his arrest and decision by Alibaug court to remand him to 14 days of judicial custody for allegedly abetting the suicide of an architect-interior designer by not making payments to them. The magistrate in Alibaug remanded Goswami to judicial custody till November 18.

Goswami was arrested under Indian Penal Code section 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (acts done by person in furtherance of common intention). He was later charged with resisting arrest and tearing up his arrest papers. Two others accused Feroz Shaikh of IcastX/Skimedia and Niteish Sarda of Smartworks were also arrested.
