High Court disposes off petition filed against Punjabi rap singer Honey Singh

Singer- rapper Honey Singh has been in the news for all the wrong reasons when recently the Punjab and Haryana High Court came down heavily on the lewd lyrics of songs sung by him and he was  booked  for singing vulgar songs in public.

A case was registered against the singer under provisions of Section 294 (singing, reciting or uttering any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place) of the Indian Penal Code in Punjab's Nawanshahr town.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed the Punjab Police to book Honey Singh for his song ‘Main Hoon Balatkari’ which they considered to be based on sexual themes and innuendoes.  The bench said that he should be boycotted as his songs were disrespectful to women.

The rapper had sought the intervention of the high court regarding the FIR (first information report) registered against him by Punjab Police on 16th May 2013.

The Punjab and Haryana high court at Chandigarh on Thursday clarified their stand that it is for the Punjab government to decide whether to set up a mechanism or authority for screening vulgar or obscene songs, and stop the misuse of information technology by uploading such songs on internet etc.

The court also has dismissed all the cases filed against Yo Yo Honey Singh, which had earlier said that the Balatkaari song was in bad taste.

Honey Singh was  present before the court when the matter came up for hearing on Thursday. His counsel Anmol Rattan Singh argued that "Honey Singh has fallen victim to his own celebrity status" and contended that the controversial song had not been sung by him but by some other "Honey Singh" thus impersonating his client.

However in a latest development Chandigarh High court has dismissed all the cases filed against Yo Yo Honey Singh, which said that he had sung the Balatkaari song . The FIR and the PIL filed against him were dismissed completely by the court stating that there is no proof that he has sung the song and that Youtube is such a medium where any one can upload any content under anyone's name. In this case also, a derogatory song against women was uploaded on Youtube under Yo Yo Honey Singh's name by an imposter and then reports were filed against him.

It is believed that recently some other music directors also tried pulling Honey Singh down by reimposing that he has sung this song but the recent statement from the High court is finally going to put an end to these wagging tongues.

An elated Yo Yo Honey Singh says," I am glad that the respected jury at the high court was successfully able to unveil the truth in this case that the song "Main Hoon Balatkari"  is not sung by me and today the high court gave judgement in my favour by disposing off the petition against me. I respect women and I have not and will never sing anything that will upset my fans. I am glad that my fans believed in me and stood by me in my hard times and continued to enjoy my songs. That's the real victory for me".
