Hike messenger bids adieu to focus on new social offerings

India's homegrown messaging app Hike is shutting down it's services. Investors Softbank, Tencent, Foxconn and Tiger Global are shifting the focus to two new social products- Rush and Vibe.

CEO, Kavin Bharti Mittal took to Twitter to announce that Hike will be shutting down it's services from January 15th, 2021.

Users will be allowed to download data from within the app.

While Mittal didn't give any reason for Hike's shutting down he did mention that the global network effects are too strong for India to have it's own messaging service.

Hike had debuted in December of 2012 as a home grown answer to WhatsApp and Facebook. As of 2016, Hike had about 100 million users in the Indian market
