Himalaya has focused on making an impactful contribution to society: Sarfraz Rumane

Himalaya has been focusing on inspiring and encouraging people to prioritise their health and wellness since its formation. It has always stood by its vision of ‘Wellness in Every Home, Happiness in Every Heart’ and is dedicated to encouraging the best hygiene practices in every Indian household in order to keep people safe and healthy.

Recently on the occasion of the Global Handwashing Day, it launched a musical video titled #SaafHaathSekHaaiye, featuring actor Piyush Mishra, who was seen encouraging people to go after their love of eating with their hands, but making sure to wash them before they do so. The video showcases people relishing different kinds of Indian delicacies in their everyday lives and eating with their hands, with the narrative of Piyush Mishra playing in the background followed by his advice to them to wash their hands with Himalaya Pure Hands hand wash before enjoying their food. Moreover, after the Covid-19 pandemic, it has become even more important to maintain healthy hand hygiene, especially as global cases of Covid-19 are on the rise again.

In conversation with Adgully, Sarfraz Rumane, GM - Marketing, Himalaya Wellness Company, shares the insight and core thought behind the #SaafHaathSekHaaiye campaign, the emphasis on promoting hand hygiene, the company’s wellness strategy, and more.

What is the concept and objective behind the campaign ‘#SaafHaathSeKhaaiye’?

Indians love their food, and they enjoy it most when they eat with their hands. So, on the occasion of Global Handwashing Day, we wanted to remind Indians that they can continue enjoying their food, but they need to wash their hands first to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

How will the campaign help to foster healthy hand hygiene among Indians? What are the expectations out of the campaign?

The campaign is a reminder for the viewers that it is essential to wash their hands before eating to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

Hence, the expectation is that every Indian builds the healthy habit of washing their hands before eating.

Who has conceptualised the campaign?

The campaign was conceptualised by the marketing team at Himalaya Wellness Company in close collaboration with Rahul Gandhi, the producer of the film.

What is the thought behind the idea of encouraging the tradition of eating with hands through this campaign?

The thought behind the campaign is based on the theme for Global Handwashing Day this year – “Unite for Universal Hand Hygiene”.

Food has been uniting India since forever and Indians love to enjoy their food by eating it with their hands. Hence, we at Himalaya, want people to come together and continue doing what they love, but first pledge to wash their hands before eating to keep themselves and their loved ones safe from illnesses.

How has Himalaya’s campaigns evolved over the years?

Over the years, Himalaya has been championing health and wellness, which consumers across the globe want to embrace. The campaigns have always focused on reinforcing Himalaya’s mission of spreading Wellness in every Home and Happiness in every Heart. Our efforts have always been to make an impactful contribution to society. Every year, we try to find new ways to spread the message of importance of hand hygiene. From sending educational vans across India to partnering with renowned actor Piyush Mishra, our aim has always been to ensure that we spread the message of importance of hand hygiene to keep everyone safe and healthy.
