Horse Racing In India

When we think of horse racing, we instantly think of the biggest horse races around the world that are covered and supported by many spectators and fans all over the world, like the Royal Ascot for example. However, it should be worth mentioning here that India and horse racing was a thing and still is a thing, with a history dating back 200 years ago. In total, there are nine race tracks within India, and they are run by six authorities. Of course, it would be worth mentioning that the horses that are allowed to participate, are nothing less than Indian-bred studs. That is a very important detail, which India is proud to have to represent their sporting dynasty.

While we all know and love horse racing all over the world, make sure you check up on the summer racing offers that are available. Here you can fully exploit your enthusiasm for horse race betting, and not by just purely having to read up about it, you can live it.

Indian 1000 Guineas

This race has been conducted throughout the history of India. Do not let your love for the Royal Ascot, take you away from the famous race held on the Mahalaxmi race course. This race is hosted every single December, and has been running on schedule like such, for many, many years. This race precedes all the others we will mention in our article. It also does come before the Indian 200 Guineas in the calendar too, so if there was one thing to top on your list to watch, this would be the social highlight of Asian news when it comes to Indian horse racing.

Indian 2000 Guineas

Next in line, we have the horse race within India, that has existed for just over 75 years within the horse racing calendar. This race has been one of significant importance, as it has always had the most coverage and media popularity. This mile-long race is held every consecutive year, and happens just after the Indian 1000 Guineas. This is the race that often gets the check for most people, as the race does not just support fillies only for competing horses.

Indian Derby

Another example, we have the Indian Derby. The name we admit attracts the attention as, you will probably think of the Derby races in the US, but alas it's all Indian here! This event is argued to be one of the most hotspot events in the entire calendar of India, as it provides the highest cash prizes to the winners. This race is exactly 2400 metres long, and has been won by star jockeys such as Suraj Narredu.

Indian Oaks

The last race on our lists that we will be mentioning, is the Indian Oaks. This also is known as the Ladies Derby, and it makes up the social sport calendar, as one of the top 5 classic Indian horse races. The India Turf Club within Mumbai organises and schedules this event, and has done so, every year since 1943 when the first Indian Oaks took place. To join the race, the fillies must be 4 years old and thoroughbreds.
