How OTTplay is bundling 12 OTT apps under one price point for a winning proposition

OTTplay recently forayed into OTT content streaming, with the launch of OTTplay Premium – offering bundled subscription packs. The five curated subscription packs not only bring together popular OTT platforms like SonyLIV, ZEE5, Lionsgate Play, Sun NXT, ShemarooMe, Curiosity Stream, ShortsTV, DocuBay, but they also make 4 international OTTs – Hallmark Movies Now, Dust, Fuse+ and Tastemade+ - available in India via OTTplay Premium Subscription Packs.

The five subscription packs – Jhakass (five Hindi OTTs) Totally Sorted (eight English OTTs), Simbly South (four OTTs focused on South Indian Languages), and Chota Pataka (Containing five assorted OTTs) – start from Rs 50 per month, paid annually, and result in savings of anywhere between Rs 3,000 and Rs 12,500 per year when a user buys an OTTplay Premium subscription pack vis-a-vis buying these OTT subscriptions individually, as per the platform.

Adgully reached out to Avinash Mudaliar, Founder, OTTplay, to know more about the platform, its offerings and more.

Speaking about how OTTplay is unique from other apps, Mudaliar said, “There are 12 apps bundled together in one price point and one login. Secondly, our recommendation runs across 12 OTT and we like to call it our OTTverse. So, if you are watching one Content on ZEE5 and another content on SonyLIV and the third day you watch something on some other platform, based on your consumption pattern, it will suggest something similar on some different platform. This kind of recommendation on 12 different platforms has not been baked in one product by anyone yet. There are platforms which provide channels, but you have to pay and subscribe to them separately and here you watch them altogether.”

Adding further, he said, “We have our own recommendation engine in which we have built from scratch and that took us around a year. You can also watch other OTT platforms, which are not a part of our plan, but you have already subscribed to, through our app. For example, if you want to watch something on Hotstar and you have its subscription, you can watch it through our app.”

Speaking about how this idea came to him, he said, “Only when everyone works together is when we will succeed, we are all fighting for the same user. It’s much more logical to work together and bring down the cost of acquisition so that all of us can share the user and the value goes down for the customer. The user is the king and he makes the decisions.”
