"I am not a slave" - Shaadi.com's Independence Day Campaign

Marriage is about being strong together, but it's also about being strong individually. And this happens only in the absence of oppression and when there is independence within your companionship. As we celebrate 75 years of India's Independence and freedom, Shaadi.com, launched an inspiring campaign "I am not a slave" to remind people about the struggles India and its people went through to achieve Independence.

This special campaign entails a short film that draws similarities between a captive India and a shackled marriage - boldly endorsing the message of celebrating freedom in marriages and ending toxic relationships just as India fought for its Independence 75 years ago and ended the British rule.

The concept of I am not a slave” came from real life experiences of millions of women around the world who undergo trauma and abuse in their marriages - be it from their spouses or in-laws. Through this message, the platform wants to make women aware of their dignity and empower them to not tolerate violence and abuse in relationships. It also highlights the fact that ending toxic marriages is the first step towards living a life on your terms.

Speaking about the campaign, Adhish Zaveri, AVP - Marketing said “At shaadi.com we strongly believe that a marriage or any relationship for that matter has to be lived on equal terms and there is no place for oppression of any sort. On the occasion of our historic 75th Independence Day, we wanted to start a conversation that is thought provoking, inspiring and something we could credibly own. With this campaign, we’ve been able to achieve all of it and more.

The short film depicts how a woman had to marry against her will, due to societal pressures and endure atrocities at the hands of her husband until she realized that she had the choice to break free and find her freedom. It takes inspiration from the story of our country that teaches us it's okay to end toxic relationships and necessary to grow and feel fulfilled.
