I’m more than happy to be coach & producer for News Wiz: Siddhartha Basu

India Today Television is all set to premiere its news quiz show – News Wiz – this Sunday, July 24, 2016. The show will see eminent journalist, anchor and author Rajdeep Sardesai donning the new role of quizmaster. News Wiz has been designed by television producer-director Siddhartha Basu. Tata Motors has come on board as the Presenting Sponsor.

News Wiz will see participation from school students across the country from classes IX till XII. Following a stringent shortlisting process 27 schools have been chosen to participate in the 13 episode series featuring three teams consisting of two participants in each episode.

Commenting on his association, Siddhartha Basu, said, “I am extremely happy to be associated with India Today TV, a channel for which I have great regard and look forward to a strong and fruitful relationship. Hosting and producing quiz shows has been an integral part of my life for over three decades. The launch of News Whiz is a major step that underlines the channel’s thought leadership and their consistent effort to break new grounds.”

On the idea behind a quiz show on a news channel, Basu said, “We have not had a national inter-school quiz of any quality on TV for a long time. So when Kalli Purie and her team at India Today Television approached us with this suggestion, in keeping with their core values of ‘India today for India tomorrow’ and ‘News is Knowledge’, we jumped at the idea.”

He further said that the underlying proposition behind News Wiz is to connect with youth and family audiences, every Sunday morning, with an entertaining and informative show which showcases the best and brightest of India’s school-goers in an exciting, healthy competition.”

On Rajdeep Sardesai donning the role of quizmaster, Basu said, “Rajdeep is a great fit as quizmaster on a news quiz, not only because he is an active news journalist, but also since he has been a keen quizzer since his school days. I believe he has what it takes to make a lively host, and I am more than happy to be a coach and producer for this show.”

As reported earlier, the first episode will feature Salman Khan. Speaking on this, Basu remarked, “Salman was good enough to promote the show, and will be asking a question for home viewers in the opening episode. In each episode we expect a celebrity to be doing the same.”

Each episode of News Wiz will be an hour long and will air every Sunday at 11 am.
