IIFA Awards 2012: Zohra Segal and Ramesh Sippy to be awarded

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) today announced the special award winners of the Jaypee Group IIFA Awards 2012. The award for Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema will be presented to Ramesh Sippy, while Zohra Segal will receive the award for Contribution to 100 years of Indian Cinema. The Videocon IIFA Weekend will be held in the amazing city of Singapore from June 7th -9th, 2012.

 

Ramesh Sippy made his debut in the Indian Films at the tender age of 9 playing Achala Sachdev’s son in Shahenshah. He is best known for directing the popular and critically acclaimed film Sholay and is a highly respected veteran in the Indian Film Industry today. Sholay, a tribute to American westerns has since become one of the most famous films in Hindi film history. He will be honoured at the IIFA celebrations in Singapore this year with the award for Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema. Ramesh Sippy said “The International Indian Film Academy is a massive pioneering effort to expand the reach of Indian Cinema, taking it beyond Indian shores. To be recognized on an international platform is an honour. I would like to thank IIFA for giving me this wonderful mark of appreciation. I am truly honoured that my work has been recognized.”

 

Also to be lauded at the prestigious ceremony will be Indian actress and centenarian, Zohra Segal. The acclaimed dancer and actress has been the recipient of the Padma Vibhusan and has seen a prolific career in theatre, film and dance. She will receive the special award, ‘Contribution to 100 years of Indian Cinema’ for her large body of work and the impact she has had on the industry in Singapore.

The entire film industry will congregate at the 13th Videocon IIFA Weekend in Singapore next month. The Videocon IIFA Weekend will be hosted in the Lion City of Singapore from the 7th to the 9th of June, this year. The Jaypee Group IIFA Awards, Singapore will be an outstanding celebration of Indian Cinema which will showcase the excellence of the Indian Film Industry on the global stage. In 2012, for the fourth year in succession, Videocon will present the IIFA Weekend and the Jaypee Group will present the IIFA Awards, while Grey Goose is the presenting sponsor of IIFA Rocks.
