India gets its first English lifestyle magazine in Braille

India is home to 12 million visually impaired people of which 56-lakh are literate. White Print, India’s first English lifestyle magazine in Braille is an initiative, born to cater to the needs of the visually impaired community and be a source of information and entertainment at the same time.

Printed at the National Association for the Blind in Mumbai, this monthly magazine consists of 64 pages and will provide the readers a slice of varied topics that one would wish to read in their free time. White Print entails information about inspiring stories of the common man, review of audio books, gadgets, travel and hospitality and food related columns. It also comprises of information pertaining to politics, art and culture from across the globe. In order to add a literary angle to the magazine, it will also publish short stories by young authors every month.

To provide a platform to the community, White Print has also dedicated a section for the readers who could contribute content about anything that interests them. Circulated throughout the country, the magazine will be launched in the month of May and is priced at Rs.30.

Talking about the venture, Upasana Makati, Founder & Publisher, White Print says, “White Print is an effort to provide the visually impaired community a companion while they are on the go or sitting by the coffee table on a Sunday afternoon. A magazine that is a source of information and entertainment was long over due and we hope we are able to make a difference in even a small way.”

White Print aspires at giving the visually impaired a vision to weave their dream and a vision to hold on to… because after all, vision is more important than sight.
